Tourism minister reports increase in arrivals by plane, ship

ZAGREB, 1.8.2010.
Croatian Tourism Minister Damir Bajs has said that preliminary figures for July show that the number of tourists arriving in Croatia by plane and by ship has increased by 15 and 9 percent respectively in relation to July 2009.

The minister made the statement at a meeting of ministry officials and representatives of the Croatian Tourist Board and workers in the public and private tourist sectors, held at the national park Krka on Sunday.

The minister said that 90 percent of tourists in Croatia were foreign nationals, while the number of domestic tourists was decreasing, according to a statement from the Tourism Ministry.

Bajs was hopeful that results for July would be such to make up for a decline in the first six months.

He said that the first weekend in August, the key weekend in the peak season, was good and that the overall result would be determined by arrivals in August and September. (Hina)
