BOL, 24.10.2009.
Addressing the closing ceremony of the Croatian Tourism Days in Bol on the island of Brac on Friday evening, Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor described the tourist trade as one of pillars of the Croatian economy, as evidenced by the last tourist season.

She called for even more efforts to be invested in preparations for the next season.

The premier congratulated Tourism Minister Damir Bajs and the head of the Croatian National tourist Board (HTZ), Niko Bulic, and all other employees in this sector for what she said a well-done job this season.

The Croatian Tourism Days, an annual conference of tourism workers, started at the Elaphusa Bluesun Hotel in Bol on the island of Brac on Wednesday evening.

Opening the event on Wednesday, Minister Bajs said that one should be careful with estimates for next year because 2010 would not be an easy year either for the global or for the national tourism industry.

Croatia's tourism results in 2009 were praised by representatives of international organizations and institutions, including the executive director of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Frederic Pierret, who said that with a 3 percent drop in foreign arrivals in the first seven months of this year, Croatia had slightly better results than the rest of Europe, which saw a drop in foreign arrivals of around 7 percent.

The event was wrapped up on Friday evening with an award giving ceremony. (Hina)
