Tourist bed nights in January-April up 26%

ZAGREB, 3.5.2017.

In the first four months of the year, there were 1.7 million tourists in Croatia, up 22% compared to the same period last year, while the number of bed nights increased by 26% to 4.7 million, data from the eVisitor and eCrew online tourist check-in and check-out systems indicate.

Much higher growth rates were recorded in April because of the Easter holidays, which last year fell in March. Tourist arrivals in April jumped by 40% on the year to 935,000, while the number of bed nights surged by 50% to 2.8 million.

According to eVisitor data forwarded to the Tourism Ministry, 1.3 million tourists were foreigners or 25% more than last year and the number of their bed nights jumped by 30% to 3.6 million.

The number of domestic tourists and bed nights jumped too, by 14% and 15% respectively.

Commenting on the latest data, Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli underscored the importance of the higher numbers in the off-season and its impact on competitiveness and development of local communities and Croatia's economy overall.

"These results are a true indicator that Croatia is becoming recognised as an all-year round destination that offers attractive events that draw a large number of guests outside the main tourism season," Cappelli said in a press release.
