Minister says flood consequences for tourism sector minimal

ZAGREB, 24.5.2014.

Croatian Tourism Minister Darko Lorencin said on Saturday that consequences of floods for tourism will be minimal and that once the damage is known, his ministry and the National Tourism Board would rebuild all tourist public infrastructure so that tourism could continue in the flooded regions as soon as possible.

"The consequences for tourism are minimal. The government has taken aid measures in the flooded regions and apart from a symbolic financial donation, the Tourism Ministry and the National Tourism Board decided to reconstruct all tourist public infrastructure to enable tourist activities to resume in that region as soon as possible," Lorencin said.

Lorencin expressed optimism about the coming tourist season.

Asked about tourist markets in Ukraine and Russia, Lorencin said his ministry gave up on promotional activities in Ukraine, saying that because of the situation there, those activities would yield no results. He added that the negative effects of the introduction of the visa regime had been reduced on the Russian market, adding that Croatia would continue to invest efforts to attract Russian tourists.
